Manheim Condition Grades Explained
What Manheim's 1-5 condition grading scale means and how it affects wholesale vehicle values.
Manheim uses a standardized 1-5 condition grading scale at wholesale auctions. Understanding these grades helps dealers and buyers assess vehicle value alongside MMR pricing.

Why Grades Are Not Enough
What condition grades miss.
Manheim condition grades assess current visual and mechanical condition, but they do not include historical data. A vehicle can receive a Grade 4 (Good) while hiding a prior salvage title, rolled-back odometer, or flood damage that was professionally repaired.
Smart dealers supplement condition grades with a VIN report ($5) to see what the grade cannot tell you. The grade says what the car looks like today. The report says what the car has been through.
